Somewhere tonight, a family in Nairobi is on a video call with a cousin in Manchester, a sister in Toronto and an uncle in Dubai — and they're arguing about what to watch. Cheap data and streaming have erased much of the distance between home and away, and African diaspora audiences are a huge, engaged audience for stories that feel like home.
That's one of the most exciting shifts in entertainment right now: a story made on the continent can find its audience anywhere. A conversation that starts in Kigali can carry on in Atlanta.
It's also part of why we cast real relationships. Family and friendship are languages every viewer speaks, wherever they live. Two siblings bickering over directions need no translation.
Season One begins in East Africa, and we hope it is the first of many journeys. If you're watching from far away — welcome. If you or someone you love is a citizen or permanent resident of an African country, the application is open, and the eligibility details are on the application page.
