Every application to The Dynamic Race Africa includes one short video of the two of you together. It's the first time we meet you, so it's worth ten minutes of care. You don't need a crew, a script or a fancy camera. You need a phone, some light, and each other.
The technical bit (it's short)
- Film in HD. In your phone's camera settings, choose 720p or 1080p — the application form will ask you to re-record anything lower.
- Keep it between 10 seconds and 2 minutes. Around 90 seconds is a sweet spot.
- Face a window. Daylight on your faces beats any lamp. Just don't film with a bright window behind you.
- Prop the phone up — a stack of books works — and make sure you both fit comfortably in the frame. Landscape or portrait, either is fine.
- Check the sound. Film somewhere quiet, record a five-second test, and play it back before you commit.
The human bit
Tell us who you are to each other, how long you've known each other, and what you'd bring to a journey across a continent. Be specific: one real story beats ten adjectives. Talk to each other as much as to the camera — we're casting a relationship, not a pair of presenters.
Don't worry about being polished. We'd rather see the two of you at ease than perfectly rehearsed. And once you've filmed it, the application lets you watch it back before you upload, so you'll know it's right.
