There's a familiar way of putting Africa on screen: the sweeping aerial, the sunset, the drumbeat under the voice-over — and then the story, which is usually about someone arriving from somewhere else. The continent is the scenery. Everything interesting happens in front of it.
That is changing, and quickly. African filmmakers, producers and audiences are asking for stories that begin here and stay here — told by people who know the roads, the languages and the jokes. Entertainment is catching up with something Africans have always known: the continent isn't a setting. It's the main character.
That idea sits at the centre of The Dynamic Race Africa. Season One moves through Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda — four countries with their own food, music, humour and rules of the road. The teams come from across the continent. The challenges grow out of the places they pass through. The people they meet are not extras.
We'll be honest about the hard parts, too. Borders are tiring. Distances are long. Nothing goes to plan. That isn't a flaw in the idea; it's the continent being itself — and it's exactly what makes it worth watching.
